For Those Seeking to Place A Child for Adoption
At the law office of Todd M. Kolarik, Attorney-at-Law, Ltd., it is my belief that birth parents should have total control over their adoption plan. I believe it is my role to assist you as requested and to make sure that you are fully informed of your rights and responsibilities under the law so that you can make an informed decision as to what is in your child’s best interest. You, as the parent of the child, will have the ultimate responsibility for selecting what you believe to be an appropriate placement for your child in the child’s best interest. I will help you understand the adoption process thoroughly, including your rights and responsibilities and answer any questions you have throughout the adoption process. Depending on the particular facts and circumstances of your case, I may be able to represent you at any court proceeding in Ohio related to the legal process of placing your child for adoption through the courts. As adoption law is purely based on State law and each county in Ohio has different procedures for adoption, each case is highly fact specific as to the particular legal process that will be required for any adoptive placement.

Birth Parent Adoption Information
You, as the parent of the child, have the option of detailing what is most important to you in a prospective adoptive family for your child and I will attempt to match those characteristics with those who are waiting to adopt. As the child’s parent, you are in control of the process in selecting what you believe to be an appropriate family for your child. You may choose to interview the family in person or telephone or not, you may choose to have an open or closed adoption, you can choose to have a continued relationship after placement though letters, pictures, emails, phone calls or even visits. However, under Ohio law, any such “open” adoption arrangement is not legally enforceable and either party can terminate or change the open nature of the adoption at any time.
